Moving in time and space - thoughts about Søllerød council by Arne Jacobsen
Moving in time and space - thoughts about Søllerød council by Arne Jacobsen

Upon a closed volume rests a big silence. With a defined outer simplicity it closes in on itself, as it was a massive block. The volume's complexity is born with the matter it is made of. Time is a liquid matter, which can stretch, bend and curve. Here occurs an inner complex geometric universe that moves along mathematical courses, that moves in time and space. Maybe one day it will all pull itself together to a simple homogeneous mass which is silently waiting.

The long corridors are lined with dark wood and represents the timelessness. With their long stretch they refer to something outside of the geometric form. The main room is only a little fragment of a bigger geometry, which refers to the identifiable time.

The inner geometry of the building points to a bigger space than what is physically existing, as it was built by tiny geometric fragments. Work drawing Pencil on Paper 66 x 87 cm

The object takes shape after one of the building's five geometric squares. The two places where there is a cut through the object, characterises the building's 2 floors. The small square holes imitates the corridors manifesting itself in the outer shape. These holes penetrate the object and initiates a rotation enhancing the building's understated complex geometry.
